Four Favorite: Foundation

Happy Friday, beauties! I’ve decided I’m going to bring the “four favorite” series back and try to post my four favorites of a particular product or style every Friday.

Today, my product of choice is foundation. I have tried a ton of different brands and finishes. While these are all pretty different, they are the four that I have determined as my top contenders.

1. Tarte Matte Shape Tape $39

This is one that I started using recently and I love it! It comes in 30 shades and is pretty much full coverage. I wear shade “fair light neutral” and like that the matte effect keeps my shine down. It’s got awesome coverage without feeling heavy.

This is a great product to wear if you need all-day makeup. I wore it to two weddings this summer and it stayed on all day and night without getting greasy or melty.

If you haven’t tried it, I would highly recommend it. Worth the price.

2. Clinique Acne Solutions $29

I wear shade “Fresh Alabaster” and I’ve been wearing it since I was 14. This is always the one I go back to, especially if I have a breakout.

If you have oily or combination skin, this is the foundation for you. It contains salicylic acid to fight and prevent acne. This liquid is medium coverage and I like to apply it with a brush as opposed to a beauty blender.

You will hear nothing but great things from me about the entire acne solutions line.

3. Benefit Hello Happy $29

This is a new product that Benefit Cosmetics released this summer. The adorable packaging sold me right off the bat.

I went to Ulta last month in search of a foundation with SPF in it. This one has SPF 15 and came in a teeny tiny little sample so I could test the product without committing. Yes! I tried it out and would definitely purchase the full size.

It is on the lighter side coverage-wise, and almost reminds me of a B.B. cream. I wear shade 2 and definitely recommend applying this one with your hands so you don’t waste any product. It’s super light and a little runny.

3. It Cosmetics Celebration Foundation $35

This is the foundation for all my ladies who love powder. This pressed celebration Foundation is AMAZING. As you can tell by 3/4 of my picks, I love the coverage that comes with a liquid foundation, but this pressed powder rocks!

I wear shade “Fair” and like the applicator sponge that comes with it. Sometimes I will use a brush to lock in my concealer when I don’t need such full coverage.

It contains hydrolyzed collagen for anti-aging, and is great for sensitive skin.

I definitely recommend using a facial mist or setting spray to lock the Celebration Foundation in.

There you have it! My favorite four bases for lasting makeup looks.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. I would love to hear what else you want to see reviewed in my favorite four!

Conceal & Feel Fierce

After my fall lip combinations post, I got a few requests for a concealer and foundation post. I decided it was easiest to do a full complexion post and share all my favorite face makeup products for everyday and glam occasions in one spot!

When it comes to makeup, there are a thousand ways to wear it and even more products to decide between. I have a powder based routine for everyday wear and a more full coverage liquid base for long wear or special occasions.

For reference, I have very sensitive skin. I would say it’s fairly normal, not particularly dry or oily, but I do get some dry patches in the cold months.

Powder Foundation Routine

This is mostly personal preference, but when I use a powder, I like to apply concealer first and finish off with the powder to lock it in. When I use a liquid foundation, I apply it before I put on concealer.

So, first off I use Benefit’s Boi-ing Industrial Strength Concealer in shade no. 01. This is my favorite product of all time. It covers pretty much any blemish out there and it stays on all day.

I like to use the It Smoothing Concealer brush (from this set) or my finger to apply it to any blemishes and red spots.

Next, I use Benefit’s Boi-ing Hydrating Concealer in shade no. 01 on my eyelids and under eyes. It’s a great eye shadow primer and prevents under eye creases. If putting moisturizer on before applying makeup makes your skin look greasy, this product is a great solution.

I finish off concealing with Benefit’s Boi-ing Brightening Concealer in shade no. 01. I apply it under my eyes to cover any dark circles, and on any other parts of my face I want to highlight (most often the bridge of my nose and my chin).

Once I am all concealed, I use the It Cosmetics Airbrush Complexion Perfection brush no. 115 to blend the It Cosmetics Celebration Foundation into my face and neck. I wear shade “light”.

FullSizeRender (1)

I am usually not a fan of powder foundations, but this one is great. It’s mid to full coverage and contains vitamins A, C and E, as well as collagen and aloe. It goes on silky smooth and doesn’t crack. I gave this powder a shot when it was on sale during Ulta’s 21 days of Beauty and will definitely repurchase it.

Liquid Foundation Routine

For special occasions or days when I know I will be out all night or in a lot of pictures, I opt for a liquid foundation to avoid having to reapply.

I start out by using the Urban Decay Optical Blurring brush to blend my Clinique Acne Solutions Liquid Makeup (in shade 02) to my entire face and neck.

Clinique’s Acne Solutions has been one of my favorite product lines since high school. I have continued to use it even now that I don’t have very acne-prone skin because of the silky texture and full coverage. This is a great liquid makeup for anyone with sensitive skin!

After that is on I go through all the concealing steps I mentioned above. Quick recap:

  1. Boi-ing Industrial Strength Concealer on my blemishes.
  2. Boi-ing Hydrating Concealer on my eyelids and under eyes.
  3. Boi-ing Brightening Concealer under my eyes, on the bridge of my nose and my chin.

(Benefit, I’m waiting on that sponsorship any day now.)

If I know I will have makeup on for a long period of time, or I really want to make sure I look glam all night, I like to apply my Clinique Stay Matte Sheer Pressed Powder shade 02 (stay neutral) as a final step.

And that’s it, LoveLeighs. I know it sounds like a lot, but it takes less than three minutes and gives you a clean base for bronzer and blush.
